STORYBOARD

For Task 4 of our pre production we had to create storyboards! Storyboards give a rough visual outline of what shots/scenes need to be completed and how they will look.

I created my storyboard alongside my script. I think I started a portion of my script first and then moved onto the storyboard and back to the script to finish it. I used Canva to create my storyboard. Referencing my bullet point plan, I started to visualize how I wanted my video to look. I used a blank page and inserted outlined rectangles,  I then downloaded photos of open and closed tripods and used a clip art person to demonstrate how I wanted they would look in each scene. Some of the artwork is not 100% accurate as it is hard to depict some of what I will be doing when creating the video in real life.

When starting the storyboard, I didn't split up any of the sections, I soon realized this and added title screens before each step. During this time, I came up with a lot of extra ideas for my video, as I could see on paper the different ways my video could be displayed and edited. I didn't manage to add any boxes for camera angles as I didn't have space, aside from long shots which were clearly illustrated, I added a text bubble reminding me to do close up shots of each step.

A storyboard for me is a more visual mind map where I can edit as I go along. I came up with ideas to overlay close up videos and use crosses/ticks to show how it was and wasn't meant to look. Unfortunately I didn't use these ideas as I realized it may make the instructions more confusing for the viewer and harder to follow along with.

As well as the script, the storyboard helped me when filming, as it gave me a reference to my ideas visually so that I could work from it and incorporate what I had planned.
