Shot List

A shot list involves creating a table and planning out what shots you will need for which scene and in which location. In the media business it can be useful for the entire production crew to know what's happening next and how the camera and cast need to be positioned.

On the template Sam gave us, it had 15 shot sections, but I only used 9. We had to write down the shots we had planned in the "shot column" and write what is happening in the shot/where it will be located.

I had 6 shots planned before filming, yet because I followed my storyboard when filming, I had to go back and add any shots I was missing to my shot list. This is because I had quite a few different plans for my shots so was unsure which I would actually use on the day of filming, so I put down the essential shots I had set in stone and added the rest as I went along.

I'm a visual learner and got engrossed in following my storyboard whilst filming, I also knew mentally what shots I needed, meaning I didn't manage to use the shot list as a guide during production. I understand it was not ideal and sort of defeats the point of a shot list, but having that flexibility and catching up after meant I could change it as I went along.
