Risk assessment

A risk assessment is a vital task that needs completing before you begin producing your media content. Essentially, a risk assessment is a graph (or a document) that highlights all the possible risks and what the crew needs to do to prevent any of the risk outcomes. In the media industry, risk assessments are a necessity. They can take from days to weeks to complete, because movie sets have many risks. Risk assessments force you to think of all the possible dangerous outcomes and risks and find ways to prevent them, so that your working environment is safe and has everyone's best interests in mind. It is a legal requirement in most workplaces.

My risk assessment covered 2 of the possible risks that I could spot. Low risk means it could happen but it's unlikely, medium risk means it is quite possible and high risk means the risk is higher and the outcome may be worse. My hazards were dropping equipment and tripping over loose equipment. I put dropping equipment in the medium risk section as I think that the precautions to prevent that are more obvious and commonly done, whereas you may be more likely to trip over equipment. Tripping over equipment also poses higher risk to yourself, and your health and safety is the highest priority when creating a risk assessment and producing your content.

Luckily none of my possible risk outcomes happened but they needed to be reviewed before filming, otherwise I may not have followed the safety precautions and could've ended up breaking equipment or injuring myself!
